ABOUT

Maria van der Maar is a self-taught visual artist (freelance). She grew up and lives in the Gantrisch region of Switzerland, an area of outstanding natural beauty in the canton of Bern. Nature is the omnipresent reference point of her artistic output, with humanity being represented as an integral part. She finds inspiration in nature – it is here that she seeks answers to questions that preoccupy her and with which she also grapples as a social worker.

 

Abstract, impressionistic and expressionistic influences shape her works, and not infrequently, chance is also incorporated as a stylistic element. Composition, color selection, structures and contrasts are sometimes minimalist, sometimes rich in detail. She also finds her artistic expression in graphic, photographic and cinematic works.

HINTERGRUND

​

Maria van der Maar ist bildende Künstlerin mit autodidaktischer Ausbildung (freischaffend). Sie lebt im Kanton Bern im Naturpark Gantrisch, wo sie auch aufgewachsen ist. Die Natur ist der allgegenwärtige Bezugspunkt ihres künstlerischen Schaffens, wobei sie den Menschen als einen integralen Bestandteil versteht. In der Natur findet sie Inspiration – hier sucht sie nach Antworten auf Fragen, die sie auch als Sozialpädagogin beschäftigen.

Abstrakte, impressionistische und expressionistische Einflüsse prägen ihre Arbeiten – und nicht selten wird auch der Zufall zum Stilelement. Komposition, Farbauswahl, Strukturen und Kontraste sind dabei mal minimalistisch, mal detailreich. Auch in grafischen, fotografischen und filmischen Arbeiten findet sie ihren künstlerischen Ausdruck.
